The Summer Box Office Challenge Update: Is the Glorious Streak Over???

The Movie Breakdown held the first Summer Box Office Challenge in 2015 and it has been an annual event on the podcast ever since. Another yearly tradition has been my defeating Scott at the challenge and then choosing three awful movies for him to review as my reward. Disney Plus Offering 'Mulan' for $29.99 Could Turn Out to Be a Historic Event

Ever since Covid-19 forced the closure of movie theatres in March, the most unsurprising news stories have been theatrical releases getting delayed or studios moving a movie to either streaming or premium VOD. Movie theatres in many parts of North America remain closed but movie studios have a lot of pictures stuffed on the shelf that are not being seen and not making any money. Studios on a weekly basis have been forced to either push a release date to a time they hope will be safer to screen their film on the big screen for an audience or try to make a profit by either selling it to a streamer like Netflix and Amazon Prime or see if entertainment hungry consumers will bite at a $19.99 premium rental option.
